When Miss Vail built her house in 1915, she used a blend of Craftsman and late Victorian styles - with high ceilings downstairs, ornamental moldings, beadboard and craftsman design elements in the porch.  The house has been through many changes, and after a fire and years of neglect, was close to lost and sold at a tax sale.  The certified historic renovation of the building has taken a long time and will cost about what new construction would have, but the result will be remarkable.

The house has two, two bedroom units, each very different and both lovely.  The upstairs unit is entered from the front porch, and includes the original staircase and baluster.  You enter an open, wainscoted hallway, with one window to the porch and two windows at the landing.  Going upstairs, there is a cosy wainscoted and carpeted TV and sitting niche.  Two bedrooms are entered from the hallway, each nicely sized with large closets, ample light and barn roof ceilings. The wainscoted bathroom is large, and has a tub with shower.  There will be a stacked washer dryer in the hallway.  The kitchen is a great former sun room, surrounded by light, with a generous balcony to the side.  Original pine flooring will be retained, some keeping the memory of the fire that almost destroyed the home.

The downstairs apartment is entered from the brick patio at the rear, going into the kitchen, with an eating nook, stainless steel appliances and ample room for entertaining.  The kitchen opens to a living room with 10 foot ceilings, transom window cased doorway and a washer dryer niche with Bosch appliances.  There is a powder room off the hallway, and then two large bedrooms, one with an en suite bathroom.  The entire apartment will have hardwood floors, with tiled baths.   Over $7000 was spent on insulation alone, and great efforts were made on sound insulation between the units.
